Baseball Drops 3-2 Decision to Xavier

Box Score

The Wright State baseball team erased an early 1-0 deficit with two runs in the top of the fourth, only to see Xavier answer with two of its own in the bottom of the inning and hold on from there for a 3-2 win in the consolation game of the Joe Nuxhall Classic Wednesday in Oxford.

Xavier opened the scoring with a run in the second and it stayed that way until the Raiders took the lead with two runs in the fourth.  Joe Ford led off with a walk and after stealing second, scored on a double to left center off the bat of Kieston Greene.  Two pitches later, Michael Timm doubled down the left field line to drive in Greene and make it 2-1.

The Musketeers, though, quickly regained the advantage with of their own in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run single by Michael Moore, which turned out to be the final two runs of the game.

WSU threatened in the sixth, leaving two on base, and had the bases loaded in the seventh, but came away empty both times.  The Raiders then had two baserunners in the eighth, but one was erased on a caught stealing.

Greene and Timm each had two hits for Wright State (16-17), who returns to Horizon League play this weekend as the Raiders host the Milwaukee Panthers in a three-game series at Nischwitz Stadium.  The series starts with a single game on Friday at 6:30.
