Box Score Five Raider pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout as the Wright State baseball team blanked Dayton 6-0 Wednesday night at Nischwitz Stadium.
WSU scored a run in the first as Michael Timm led off with a triple to right center and came in on a sacrifice fly by Brad Macciocchi and added two more in the fourth on RBI singles from Joe Ford and Jason DeFevers.
The Raiders then broke the game open in the seventh with three runs, including an Andrew McCafferty hit that drove in Macciocchi.
On the mound, WSU starter E.J. Trapino (1-1) went the first four innings, allowing just one hit and benefitted from a diving catch by left fielder Jeff Limbaugh in the fourth to end the frame and leave two Dayton runners stranded on base.
Jack Van Horn then struck out two in two innings of work, followed by a scoreless inning from Taylor Braun. Logan Blair and Andrew Elliott then retired the side in order in the eighth and ninth, respectively, to complete the shutout.
McCafferty and DeFevers each had two hits for Wright State (29-18) , who closes out the home portion of its schedule this weekend with a three-game Horizon League series against Valparaiso, starting on Friday at 6:30. The Crusaders are the only team to defeat the Raiders in league play so far this season, taking two of three in a series in early April.
