Men's Soccer Explodes for 3-2 Win Over IUPUI

Box Score

Down 1-0 at the half, the Wright State men's soccer offense exploded for three goals in the second half, two from Jake Stovall, as the Raiders held on for a 3-2 win over IUPUI Sunday at Alumni Field.

The Jaguars led 1-0 at the break as Uriel Macias received a pass from the left side and converted a shot for his first goal of the season at the 35:50 mark of the first half.

WSU, however, tied it in the early minutes of the second half as Eric Lynch delivered a corner kick from the right side to Jake Stovall, who headed in his first goal of the season.  It was Lynch's first assist of the year.

IUPUI regained the lead just 4:35 later on a goal by Emmanuel Usen, only to see the Raiders come right back and tie it again at the 54:46 mark as Zach Zwiesler tallied his second goal of the season on AJ Paterson's first assist of his college career.

The sophomore duo of Stovall and Lynch then connected again for the game-winning goal at the 72:43 mark off a free kick from Lynch.

"Our offense really came alive in the second half," said head coach Bryan Davis.  "The credit goes to my assistant coaches.  Coach Kolba and Slemker really managed the team well at halftime and we made some adjustments.  We did a great job of answering the challenge that IUPUI presented and with us playing on a one-day turnaround."

"For us to be able to gut it out and come up with a win really says a lot about the players we have,"  added Davis.  "We had different people in different spots out there and to be able have anyone we call off the bench to come in and make something happen is a sign of a good team."

The Raiders led 14-8 on shots and 9-5 on corner kick as goalkeeper Tyler Blackmer recorded four saves.

Wright State (3-0-1) heads west for a pair of matches next weekend, taking on San Diego State on Friday, September 12, and Grand Canyon on Sunday, September 14, with both contests starting at 10:00 Eastern time.
