Box Score Behind two goals from Marquis Payton and the seventh shutout of the season by Tyler Blackmer, the men's soccer team defeated Belmont 2-0 Wednesday evening in Nashville.
Payton struck quickly with his first goal of the night, giving the Raiders the lead just 3:55 into the contest as the junior forward headed in a cross from senior midfielder Wes Cain. It was the second assist of the year for Cain.
Payton again gave WSU a quick goal to start the second half, this time just 1:51 into the period as he collected a deflection and connected on a shot in the box for his third goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder AJ Paterson was credited with the assist, his first of the year.
Junior Tyler Blackmer posted his seventh shutout of 2015 and the 17th of his career, notching a save in the process.
WSU led 11-8 in shots while both teams had nine corner kicks.
Wright State (9-3-1, 4-2-1 Horizon) closes out the regular season with four of five matches at home, starting on Saturday, October 24, with a 7:00 match against Detroit.
