The Wright State baseball team ran its winning streak to 12 consecutive games behind a 12-5 Sunday afternoon victory at UIC, giving the Raiders their third straight four-game series sweep in Horizon League play.
Â
The Raiders (12-5, 12-0 HL) saw
Tyler Black,
Sammy Sass and
Alex Alders all homer on Sunday, with Black and Alders, along with
Zane Harris and
Alec Sayre, all tallying doubles as well.
Â
UIC (3-11, 2-6 HL) scored first for the second day in a row, but the Raider offense got going in the third and fourth innings. In the third, a
Quincy Hamilton RBI groundout tied the game before Black connected on a two-run homer to right-center to give Wright State the lead. After UIC pulled to within one with a run in the bottom of the third, the Raiders added on in the fourth, first on Sass' solo homer to left.
Damon Dues drove in a run with a single before Hamilton's two-run single extended the lead to 7-2.
Â
Harris got into the RBI action in the sixth with his single through the left side before Alders delivered his three-run shot in the seventh. Sayre tallied the final Raider run of the afternoon with an RBI double in the eighth before UIC added three runs in the bottom of the eighth but would be unable to get any closer.
Â
Harris' three hits paced the Raider offense, who also saw Dues, Black and Alders all have two hits in the win. Hamilton and Alders each had three RBI while Black tallied two RBI of his own.
Â
Austin Cline picked up his third straight Sunday win, recording 10 strikeouts in six innings, allowing four hits and two UIC runs.
Â
Tanner Shears was saddled with the loss for the Flames, allowing seven runs on eight hits over four innings of work, while Thomas Smart (three hits) and Cole Conn (two hits) combined for five of UIC's eight hits in the loss.
