SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
Bellarmine is 2-2-6 overall this season but has played eight of its 10 matches on the road to date this season. Tuesday's match will be the first at home for Bellarmine since September 23 (loss), with the only other home match back on September 4 (draw). Among common opponents with the Raiders this season, Bellarmine has played to ties against Purdue Fort Wayne (2-2), Northern Kentucky (0-0) and IUPUI (1-1), while the Knights also won at Eastern Illinois (2-0) in early September.
HISTORY VS. BELLARMINE
The Raiders look to remain undefeated against the Knights, currently holding an edge in the all-time series 7-0-1. The last regular season meeting took place all the way back in 1987, making Tuesday's meeting the first in the Division I era for the programs.
LAST TIME OUT…
Visiting Robert Morris got on the board first in the 36th minute on Saturday before the Raiders tallied the equalizer just before the halftime break. Harrison Rhody's throw in late in the 43rd minute went into the box, off
Cole Werthmuller and then to the feet of
Henry Hutchinson. Hutchinson flicked the ball back to Werthmuller, who sent the high angle shot over the RMU keeper and into the far corner of the net.
COLE TRAIN
Cole Werthmuller has been on a tear lately, scoring in three of the last four contests for the Raiders while also recording a season-best seven shots in the Oct. 7 match against Robert Morris. His 20 shots are the second-most on the roster overall while his 12 shots on frame lead the team.
SHARING THE SCORING
Wright State finds itself with three multi-goal scorers entering the final month of action, paced by
Cole Werthmuller's three goals.
Reece Allbaugh and
Henry Hutchinson each have two goals, while the Raiders have also seen six other players chip in one goal each.
DOWN THE STRETCH
The Raiders will play four of their final six regular season contests on the road, beginning Tuesday night, entering the stretch with a 1-3-2 mark away from home to date this season. The road stretch features two non-conference matches and Horizon League matchups at Oakland and Cleveland State. The Raiders will also host Detroit Mercy and Northern Kentucky at home as part of the final stretch.
THREE'S COMPANY
The three second half goals by Wright State on September 19 against Bowling Green matched the most goals in a game this season for the Raiders, who also found the back of the net three times in a 3-3 draw against Saint Francis (PA) on September 2.
FIRST BUT NOT LAST
Wright State's 1-0 win over Milwaukee on September 16 was the first victory for
Alex Van der Sluijs as Raider head coach. Van der Sluijs, who spent the 2022 season as a Raider assistant, is no stranger to winning, having racked up 38 victories in four seasons at the helm of Wilmington College prior to coming to Wright State.
PRESEASON POINTS
The Raiders got set for the season with a trio of exhibitions, traveling to face traditional power Indiana to cap the first week of preseason training (1-0 loss, 120 minutes) before home contests against Lake Erie (4-0 win, 105 minutes) and Thomas More (2-2 draw).
Conner Osterholt recorded three of Wright State's six total goals, while
Charlie Carpenter,
Pete Schneider and
Cole Werthmuller also all found the back of the net in exhibition action.
NEXT UP
Following the meeting with Bellarmine, Wright State remains on the road and gets back to Horizon League action on Saturday afternoon at Oakland. The Raiders then return home on October 21 against Detroit Mercy before two more road matches to close October.
