CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Wright State baseball team came up short against Charlotte Friday night at Hayes Stadium, falling 2-10
Â
Wright State (1-3) will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for game two of the three-game set against Charlotte. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
Â
The Raiders got back-to-back singles in the top of the first off the bats of Braylen Blomquist and Hunter Warren, but were unable to capitalize and stranded both runners on base. Charlotte struck first, thanks to a two-run homer off the bat of Cody Gunderson and an RBI single off the bat of Spencer Nolan.
Â
Wright State got one run in the top of the third when Cy Turner scored on a bases-loaded walk by JP Peltier, but the Raiders were unable to bring any more runners home and left the bases loaded.
Â
Charlotte hung crooked numbers third and fourth innings to break the game open. The 49ers brought home two runs in the third and three more in the fourth to jump out to an 8-1 lead.
Â
Andrew Duncan brought home the Raiders' second run of the day in the sixth inning on an RBI triple that the Charlotte right fielder lost in the lights, allowing Patrick Fultz to score from first base. The 49ers kept their foot on the gas with single tallies in the seventh and eighth.
Â
Duncan would get his second extra-base hit of the game in the top of the ninth, roping a double into right center and then coming in to score a few pitches later on a passed ball.
Â
Seven different Raiders saw action on the mound Friday night, with Evan Boeckmann and Cooper Ashby making their Wright State debuts and Nate Shaw making his season debut
