Buies Creek, N.C.- The Wright State baseball team took the series opener 6-4 at Campbell Friday evening.

Wright State (3-5) will be back in action Saturday afternoon for the second game of the series against Campbell. First pitch in Buies Creek is slated for 3 p.m.

The Raiders would strike first Friday night, thanks to an RBI double off the bat of Cy Turner in the top of the second, scoring JP Peltier from second base.

Campbell would answer back and take the lead with single tallies in the bottom of the third, fourth, and sixth to take a two-run advantage going into the final three innings.

Wright State would tie the game up in the top of the seventh inning thanks to a Cam Gilkerson solo shot and a sacrifice off the bat of Peltier. The homer is Gilkerson's first home run of the season, but his first hit, breaking a 0-18 start to his 2026 campaign. Campbell would regain the lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to lead the Raiders 4-3.

Hunter Warren would regain the lead for the Raiders in the eighth inning with a two-run double. The redshirt sophomore roped a double into the gap in left-center, bringing home Zac Butler from second and Brett Denby from first.

Peltier would give the Raiders a run of insurance in the top of the ninth, blasting his second home run of the season over the wall in left-center.

Cam Allen got the start on the mound for the Raiders, turning in his longest outing of the season. The right-hander went three innings, allowing just one run on one hit while striking out two. Cooper Ashby, Cooper Gilkerson, Matthew Johnson, and Abe Crall pitched the middle 3.2 innings, allowing a combined three runs on three hits. JJ Thompson got the win for the Raiders, getting the final out of the seventh inning while stranding a Campbell runner on third. Malachi Paplanus got the save for the Raiders, pitching the final two innings en route to his second save of the season.
