Wright State (10-12, 4-0 HL) will be back in action Saturday afternoon for game two of its three-game set over Oakland. First pitch at Nischwitz Stadium is slated for 2 p.m.
The Raiders got a balanced offensive attack Friday afternoon with all nine Raiders reaching base at least once and recording a run batted in. Wright State scored 12 runs on 14 hits while scoring in seven of its eight offensive innings.
Oakland opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI single off the bat of Aidan Schuck.
Wright State would respond with two runs in the bottom of the first and two more runs in the bottom of the second. Andrew Duncan opened the scoring for the Raiders with an RBI triple, and he would come in to score a couple of pitches later, on a JP Peltier RBI double. Wright State would double its scoring with a pair of productive outs in the bottom of the second off the bats of Hunter Warren and Patrick Fultz to jump out to a 4-1 lead.
The two teams would exchange three spots in the third inning. Oakland would get three runs in the top half of the inning thanks to an RBI single and a pair of sacrifice flies to tie the game at four runs apiece. Wright State would regain its three-run lead in the bottom half of the inning, courtesy of a Keegan Holmstrom RBI double, a Zac Butler bases-loaded walk, and a Gus Gregory sacrifice fly.
The Raiders would bring across single tallies in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Cy Turner delivered with an RBI groundout in the fourth, Gregory scored on a throwing error in the fifth, and Butler served an RBI single through the left side in the sixth.
Cam Allen got the start on the mound for the Raiders, pitching five innings, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out three Golden Grizzlies.
Braylen Blomquist would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the eighth, launching a two-run homer over the scoreboard in left. The homer is the shortstop's second of the season after parking a ball over the wall in left at Campbell earlier this season.
Zielinski was the lone man out of the bullpen on Friday evening, pitching four shutout innings. The freshman pitched the final four innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five Golden Grizzlies en route to his first save of the season.
