Wright State (24-23, 17-4 HL) will take a short trip east in the midweek to take on Ohio State on May 12. First pitch in Columbus is slated for 6 p.m.
Â
Wright State got a complete offensive performance, scoring 17 runs on 16 hits, with every Raider in the lineup reaching base multiple times and scoring at least one run. Andrew Duncan and Patrick Fultz led the way with three hits apiece. Gus Gregory, JP Peltier, and Cy Turner provided the power each clubbing a home run, with Turner parking two balls over the outfield wall.
Â
It was all Northern Kentucky early Sunday afternoon, scoring three runs in the first, a single tally in the second, and another three runs in the third. Wright State got on the board with one run in the third on a Hunter Warren sacrifice fly.
Â
Wright State would erupt for seven runs in the top of the fifth inning to come back and take an 8-7 lead. The first three runs of the frame came in on a bases-loaded walk, a sacrifice fly off the bat of Keegan Holmstrom, and a wild pitch. Turner would tie the game with his first homer of the afternoon, parking a three-run blast over the wall in left center. Fultz would give Wright State its first lead of the afternoon with an RBI single.
Â
Northern Kentucky would respond and take the lead back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Â
Turner would launch his second game-tying home run over the right field wall in the top of the seventh to tie the game back up at nine runs apiece. Northern Kentucky would once again respond in the bottom half of the frame with an RBI double off the bat of Landon Springmeyer to take a 10-9 lead.
Â
Peltier would launch a two-run blast beyond the wall in centerfield to give the Raiders the lead, and this time they would not relinquish it. The homer is the 10th of the season for Peltier, placing him one behind Turner for the team lead of 11. Fultz would deliver another RBI single in the frame to extend the Wright State lead to 12-10.
Â
Wright State wasn't done yet, striking for five insurance runs in the top of the ninth. Duncan would open the frame, coming in to score on a wild pitch. Braylen Blomquist would get in on the fun, roping an RBI double out to center field. Gregory would ice the game with a three-run homer over the right field wall to give Wright State its 17-10 lead.
Â
Six pitchers saw action on the mound for the Raiders, combining for 10 strikeouts. Cooper Ashby got the win for the Raiders, his first in Green and Gold.
