Raiders ready for three-game set at Northern Kentucky

DAYTON- The Wright State baseball team (22-22, 12-5 HL) will hit the road for the third straight weekend for a three-game set against Northern Kentucky.

The Raiders and Norse are slated to meet at 3 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. Saturday, and 12 p.m. Sunday.

HISTORY VS. NORTHERN KENTUCKY
The two rivals have faced off 79 times entering this weekend, with the Raiders holding a dominant 59-20 advantage in the series. Wright State swept Northern Kentucky when the two teams met earlier this season at Nischwitz Stadium, with the Raiders outscoring the. Norse 29-10 across the three-game set.

A season ago, Wright State went 5-2 against Northern Kentucky, winning both the home and away series 2-1, and then defeated the Norse 18-1 in the Horizon League Tournament at Nischwitz Stadium.

SCOUTING THE NORSE
Northern Kentucky enters the weekend at 23-24 on the season with an 11-10 mark in Horizon League play. The Norse are currently riding a three-game winning streak, with a midweek win over Miami (Hamilton) and a pair of wins at Youngstown State on Saturday and Sunday. Northern Kentucky has picked up back-to-back series wins in Horizon League play, with last weekend's series win over Youngstown State and a series sweep of Northern Kentucky two weeks ago.

LAST TIME OUT
The Raiders scored 16 runs Sunday afternoon on the back of Cy Turner's two-homer day to enact the run rule in the seventh and complete the weekend sweep of Oakland. Defeating the Golden Grizzlies 16-2 in seven innings.
The Wright State offense scored 16 runs Sunday afternoon on 16 hits, with seven different Raiders recording hits and five multi-hit performances. Turner led the way for the Raiders with four extra-base hits on the afternoon, highlighted by a pair of home runs. Turner was also a run-producing machine, driving in seven runs and scoring four himself.  Hunter Warren, Andrew Duncan, Braylen Blomquist, and Patrick Fultz would all join Turner with multi-hit days of their own.
Chet Lax got the start on the mound for the Raiders and picked up his Horizon League-leading eighth win on the season. The left-hander delivered yet another quality start for the Raiders in Rochester, pitching six innings, allowing just two runs while picking up five strikeouts.
Wright State would open the scoring with an RBI single in the top of the first off the bat of Peltier. Oakland would respond right away in the bottom half of the frame with a Ben Clark leadoff homer.
The Raiders would regain the lead with three runs in the top of the second and never look back. Blomquist would bring home Turner with an RBI groundout before Fultz sent a two-run opposite-field shot over the wall in left.
After a pair of scoreless frames put up by the Raiders and Golden Grizzlies, Turner would break the game wide open with his first homer of the day in the fifth inning. The senior sent a three-run shot over the wall in centerfield to give Wright State a 7-1 lead.
The Raiders would strike for four more runs in the top of the sixth thanks to back-to-back two-run doubles off the bats of Turner and Blomquist.
Warren would give the Raiders some insurance in the top of the seventh with an RBI single. Duncan would follow Warren with a two-run triple into the gap in left-center. Turner would step up in the seventh just a single short of the cycle, but instead the right fielder would park his second homer of the day over the wall in right.
Oakland would get one more run in the bottom of the seventh, Michael Zielinski would come out of the bullpen to shut down the Golden Grizzlies, as the Raiders enact the 10-run rule and complete the series sweep of Oakland.

#HLBASE BATTER OF THE WEEK
Wright State outfielder Andrew Duncan has been named the Horizon League Batter of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Duncan was a force in the middle of the Wright State batting order as they went 3-1 on the week, including a weekend sweep of Oakland. Duncan hit to the tune of a .611 batting average with a 1.872 OPS. The junior led the Raiders in hits (11), runs scored (6), and RBIs (8). Five of Duncan's 11 hits went for extra bases, including a pair of triples, moving him to first nationally in triples and triples per game.

Wright State currently sits atop the Horizon League baseball standings with a 15-3 mark in conference play. The Raiders will clinch their eighth consecutive regular-season title this weekend with one win or a Milwaukee loss

Wright State has been stretching doubles into triples all season. The Raiders' 20 three-baggers and 0.45 triples per game lead the Horizon League and rank second in Division I baseball. Andrew Duncan leads not only the Raiders and the Horizon League with eight triples on the season but is also tied for first in all of Division I baseball. Cy Turner follows him with four triples on the season, good for second in the Horizon League, and 33rd nationally.

JP Peltier has been spraying extra base hits all over the field this season. The junior leads the team and the Horizon League in doubles. His 19 two-baggers also rank him 13th nationally.

Cy Turner has been heating up at the dish for the Raiders over the last two weeks. Over this stretch, the senior is hitting to the tune of a .419 batting average and a 1.577 OPS. Over this stretch, Turner is leading the Raiders in runs scored (19), runs batted in (16), home runs (6), triples (3), and total bases (44).

In Sunday's win over Oakland, Turner powered the Wright State offense. The senior came up a single short of the cycle with two homers, a triple, and a double for 13 total bases. Turner was also a run-producing machine, driving in seven runs and scoring four himself.

The Raidergang returns 20 players from a season ago while adding 19 newcomers (10 transfers and nine true freshmen). The squad consists of five seniors, nine juniors, nine sophomores, and 16 freshmen.

The roster features a strong in-state contingent, with 54% of players (21) from Ohio. But the Raiders also recruit well nationally, with 13 other states being represented in the roster. The other 13 states include California, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia.
