Women Drop 60-47 Decision at Cleveland State

The Wright State women's basketball team led by six at the half, but Cleveland State scored the first eight points of the second half and outscored the Raiders 42-23 the final 20 minutes to win 60-47 in Horizon League action at the Wolstein Center Saturday afternoon.

The Raiders never trailed in the first half and led by as much as seven twice, including 23-16 following a Brittney Whiteside three-pointer in the final minute.

WSU's lead was 24-18 at the break, but the Vikings scored eight straight points, four coming from Kailey Klein, to take the lead for the first time at 26-24. Whiteside put Wright State back in front with another three, but CSU followed with a 9-1 run, five by Brittany Korth, to take the lead for good.

Both teams struggled from the field as Cleveland State shot 36 percent compared to 32 percent for Wright State, but the Vikings hit 19 of 24 free throws, including all 14 attempts in the second half, while the Raiders were just seven of 12 for the game.

Whiteside paced WSU with 14 points, including a career-high four three-pointers, while Hammock added 10 points. Danielle Duncan chipped in nine rebounds.

Klein led all scorers with 18 points for Cleveland State (4-11, 1-1 Horizon), all but two coming in the second half, while Dominique Butler had 13 off the bench and Korth 11.

Wright State, now 3-10 overall and 1-1 in the Horizon League, returns home for five of six games in January, starting with the Butler Bulldogs on Saturday, January 6, at 1:00.
