Box Score The Wright State women's basketball team trailed by just 11 at the half and by 13 with 11 minutes to play, but Boston College closed the game with a 24-5 run as the Eagles defeated the Raiders 68-36 in the season opener for both teams Friday afternoon at Conte Forum in Boston.
WSU led 13-9 seven minutes into the game thanks to six points from Boston native Shey Peddy, making her college debut, but BC followed with an 11-0 run over the next five minutes. The Eagles extended the margin to 14 late in the first half before a Kanisha Ward three and a Sierra Crayton layup helped trim the deficit to 36-25 at the break.
The Raiders then trailed 44-31 following a Peddy layup with 12:42 remaining in the second half, only to see Boston College break the game open with a 10-0 run over a five minute span.
After shooting 50 percent in the first half, WSU hit just five of 16 shots the final 20 minutes for 31 percent and 42 percent overall while Boston College shot 48 percent in the second half to end up at 46 percent for the game.
The Eagles held a 36-15 rebounding advantage and forced Wright State into 29 turnovers while committing 16, resulting in a 18-0 differential in second-chance points and 32-6 in points off of turnovers.
Ward led the way for the Raiders with 14 points, 11 in the first half, and had four assists with three steals while Peddy added eight points, five assists and four steals. Erica Richardson and Crayton each had six.
Carolyn Swords paced all scorers with 23 points for Boston College, 16 of those coming in the first half, while Corey Rusin had 10 off the bench. Overall, the Eagle reserves outscored the Raider bench 30-2.
The next action for the Raiders will be the home opener on Monday, November 12, against the Ball State Cardinals at the Ervin J. Nutter Center. Game time is 7:00.
