Box Score The Wright State baseball team used a six-run ninth to post a 9-1 win at Butler Friday in the Horizon League opener for both teams.
WSU opened the scoring in the first as Ross Oeder led off with a hit to left center, stole second, went to third on a Dan Biedenharn single up the middle and scored as Jeremy Hamilton grounded out.
It stayed that way until the Raiders picked up a run in the seventh. With one out, John Kopilchack doubled to left and went to third as Oeder reached on an infield hit. A fielder's choice retired Kopilchack at the plate, but Hamilton followed with a hit up the middle to drive in Oeder.
Wright State extended the lead to 3-0 in the eighth as Justin Parker scored on a wild pitch, only to see Butler answer with a run of its own in the bottom of the frame.
The Raiders, though, broke the game open with the six-run ninth. Kopilchack led off with a triple to right center and, after Oeder walked and stole second, scored on a wild throw. Biedenharn plated Oeder with a hit to make it 5-1 and two more runs came in thanks to another Bulldog error and a Parker sacrifice fly. J.C. Ramatowski capped off the inning with a two-run double to left center.
Garret Holleran (2-0) allowed just one run in 7.1 innings as he scattered six hits and two walks to pick up the win. Nate Stevens picked up his first save by pitching the final 1.1 innings, fanning two.
Offensively, Oeder finished with three hits and scored three times while Hamilton and Ramatowski each had two hits and two RBI. Biedenharn and Kopilchack also had two hits.
Wright State (7-4, 1-0 Horizon) and Butler (6-8, 0-1 Horizon) close out the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
