Box Score The Wright State baseball team opened their series with Air Force with a 13-3 victory at Falcon Field. John Kopilchack drove in three runs in the win. Garret Holleran threw eight innings and allowed only two runs to pick up his first victory of the season.
Oeder extended his hitting streak to seven games in the first at-bat, doubling to left-center field, and moved to third on a sacrifice. Jeremy Hamilton sent a double to right-center to score Oeder. Justin Parker walked, putting runners on the corners, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher, scoring Hamilton.
Air Force tallied two of their own in the first inning to knot the score at 2-2. The Falcons posted an RBI single off the bat of Bob Carpenter and Addison Gentry doubled to bring home second run of the inning.
The Raiders struck with two runs in the second and added one in the fourth, all coming off the bat of Kopilchack, each after a Gerald Ogrinc single. In the second, Kopilchack smacked two-run, home run 398-feet over the left-center field fence. Then in the fourth, the left-handed hitter sent a ball slicing into the right field corner for a triple, plating Ogrinc, giving the Green and Gold a 5-2 lead.
In the seventh inning, the Green and Gold struck with four runs off of Air Force relief pitcher Michael Ruvolo. The Raiders pieced together three hits, walked once and stole two bases to give WSU a 9-2 lead.
Holleran compiled his third quality start of the season against the Falcons. The senior right-hander threw eight innings, allowed seven hits and struck out four batters. Holleran, now1-0, allowed only the two first inning runs and picked up his first decision of the season.
The Raiders batted around in the ninth, scoring four more runs, to push their lead to 13-2. Ogrinc drove in two with a double and Dan Biedenharn had a two-RBI double in the inning.
Kopilchack went two-for-three in the contest with a walk and three RBI's. Ross Oeder posted three hits, scoring twice, while Ogrinc doubled twice and drove in two RBI. Justin Parker collected a hit, walked twice and stole a pair of bases in the game. Shoup and Biedenharn each collected two hits in the game.
Overall the Raiders collected 14 hits, walked six times and reached base by means of hit-by-pitch twice. Each team left nine runners on base and the Raiders stole five bases on the day.
The Green and Gold improve to 3-4 overall on the season and will play their first doubleheader of the season on Saturday, March 10. The Raiders and Falcons will square off at 1:00 Dayton time at the United State Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
