Box Score The Wright State women's basketball team opened up an early lead on visiting Cleveland State and held on for a 51-43 victory at the Nutter Center on Thursday evening. The Green and Gold led by 17 at halftime and connected on only five field goals in the second half, but forced 21 turnovers by the Vikings in the game.
The Raiders raced out to an early ten point lead to open the contest as Erica Richardson posted five quick points in the first seven minutes. The Vikings would cut the lead to four points at 15-11 with 7:58 remaining in the half on a Dominique Butler layup. WSU would push their lead back to double figure before the half ended, outscoring CSU 20-7 to close the first stanza.
WSU would build on their lead, pushing it to a game-high 19 points midway through the second half as Richardson converted a layup and free throw to push the Raiders in front 47-28.
That layup was the final field goal for WSU in the contest and came at the 9:14 mark. WSU would convert four free throws down the stretch and hold CSU's offense at bay to hold on for the 51-43 win.
The win is the third straight victory for WSU and gives them a 10-12 record overall and a 7-4 mark in Horizon League play. CSU falls to 14-9, 8-4 HL this season.
Pacing the Raiders was Richardson who poured in 14 points, grabbed six rebounds and recorded three blocks in the contest. Whitney Lewis posted a near double-double as she grabbed nine rebounds and tallied ten points. Shey Peddy added eight points and Sierra Crayton chipped in five points off the bench.
Stephanie Crosley was CSU's leading scorer with ten and tied Lewis for the game-high in rebounds with nine.
The Raiders next game will be on Saturday, February 16, as they will entertain Youngstown State at 1:00. That game will be the first of two games that day, as the men's squad will take on UIC at 7:00 that evening.
