Box Score Wright State shot just 33 percent from the field Thursday night as the Raiders fell to the Cleveland State Vikings 51-43 in Horizon League women's basketball action at the Wolstein Center.
WSU trailed just 9-7 following a Molly Fox layup with 14:09 remaining in the first half, but the Vikings followed with a 13-3 run and extended the margin to 28-15 at the break.
CSU shot 52 percent from the field over the opening 20 minutes compared to 24 percent for the Raiders and outscored WSU 22-4 in the paint and 13-3 in points off of turnovers.
A Ta-myra Davis foul shot trimmed the deficit to 38-31 with 8:28 to play, but Jessica Roque answered with a three and a jumper to push the Cleveland State lead back into double figures. The Raiders would get no closer than seven the rest of the way.
The Vikings finished the night shooting 46 percent and were seven of eight from the foul line while Wright State shot 33 percent and was four of nine at the stripe. CSU held a 35-26 rebounding advantage and led in points in the paint (30-20) and points off of turnovers (19-13).
LaShawna Thomas led all scorers with 14 for WSU, but no other Raider managed more than eight.
Shawnita Garland led Cleveland State (15-10, 9-4 Horizon) with 13 points while Kailey Klein had 11.
Wright State (10-15, 6-8 Horizon) concludes its swing in Northeast Ohio Saturday with a 2:00 matchup at Youngstown State.
