Women Fall to Dayton

Wright State trailed by just eight at the half, only to see Dayton shoot 55 percent in the second half and 53 percent overall as the Flyers went on to a 91-61 decision over the Raiders in women's basketball action at Wright State's Nutter Center Monday night.

WSU led 4-1 early on two Ta-myra Davis layups and 15-14 on a fastbreak score from Shaunda Sandifer with 13:08 to play in the first half before Dayton went on a 7-0 run to take the lead for good. The Raiders cut the deficit to 39-35 on three baskets by Molly Fox and a Maria Bennett three before threes from Kristin Daugherty and Justine Raterman gave the Flyers a 45-37 halftime advantage.

UD shot 51 percent from the field in the first half, including seven of 18 from three-point range, while Wright State shot 44 percent and was five of 10 from behind the arc.

Dayton gradually build on the lead in the second half as the Flyers hit 18 of 33 shots the final 20 minutes compared to just 28 percent shooting for the Raiders. WSU finished at 37 percent overall while UD was at 53 percent.

The Flyers also held a 49-35 rebounding edge and outscored Wright State 42-18 in the paint, 36-8 in points off of turnovers and 31-17 in bench scoring.

LaShawna Thomas led the Raiders with 16 points and six assists while Bennett had 12 and Fox posted a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Davis had eight points and eight boards off the bench.

Raterman paced all scorers with 26 for Dayton (3-3) while Daugherty had 15 and Patrice Lalor 10.

Wright State (2-2) is right back in action Wednesday night, hosting the Miami RedHawks in a 7:00 contest.
