Women Drop 62-57 Decision to Miami

Box Score

Wright State could never get on track offensively Wednesday night as the Raiders shot 32 percent in dropping a 62-57 decision to the Miami RedHawks in women's basketball action at Wright State's Nutter Center.

In a game that saw both teams struggle all night shooting wise, Miami erased an early 5-4 WSU lead with seven straight points, only to see the Raiders tie the score at 13 on a Courtney Boyd three with 11:03 remaining in the first half.

The RedHawks went back out in front from there with six unanswered before Wright State tied it again at 19 with another three, this time by Maria Bennett. There were three more ties in the half before a Kristin Judson three with just over a minute to go helped give Miami a 28-27 halftime edge.

WSU shot 27 percent in the first half compared to Miami's 26 percent.

Five straight Hannah Robertson points broke a 40-40 deadlock with 13:57 to play and the RedHawks gradually built a 60-49 advantage on two Rachael Hencke free throws at the 2:28 mark.

The Raiders scored the final six points of the contest on threes by MaRanda Boddie, but could get no closer.

Wright State shot 32 percent overall and 25 percent from three-point range while Miami hit for 31 percent, including 33 percent from behind the arc.

The RedHawks, though, won the game at the foul line as they hit 15 of 19 attempts, including nine of 12 in the second half, while WSU was just five of seven and did not have an attempt in the final 20 minutes.

The Raiders had no players in double figures, but did have four with eight points in LaShawna Thomas, Kayla Lamotte and Boyd. Shaunda Sandifer collected nine rebounds.

Courtney Osborn paced Miami (3-3) with 19 points while Judson had 10 off the bench and Kirsten Olowinski gathered in 13 rebounds.

Wright State (2-3) now hits the road for five straight games, starting with a 2:00 matchup at Akron on Saturday, December 4.
