Box Score

LaShawna Thomas tied a career high with 25 points and three other Raiders scored in double figures as the Wright State women's basketball team defeated the Akron Zips 71-64 at the James A. Rhodes Arena in Akron Saturday afternoon.

WSU jumped out to an 8-0 lead, including a pair of Tanni Scott layups, only to see Akron answer right back with eight of its own. Two Thomas layups and one from Ta-myra Davis put the Raiders back in front at 16-10 and the margin was eight on another Thomas basket before the Zips tallied the final five points to make it 35-32 at halftime.

Wright State shot 43 percent from the field in the first half compared to 35 percent for Akron.

Akron cut the deficit to three on three different occasions down the stretch, the final at 67-64 with 33 seconds remaining, but the Raiders held on for the win as Maria Bennett and Thomas each hit two foul shots to close out the scoring.

Wright State shot 45 percent for the game compared to 37 percent for Akron, outrebounded the Zips 44-35 and led in points in the paint (45-38) and bench scoring (30-18).
