Women Drop 75-57 Decision at #21 Green Bay

A 18-3 run midway through the first half proved to be the difference as Wright State dropped a 75-57 decision to #21 Green Bay in Horizon League women's basketball action Sunday afternoon at the Kress Events Center.

The Raiders only trailed 13-9 after a Maria Bennett three from the left side at the 13:31 mark in the first half, but the Phoenix followed by scoring the next eight points. Courtney Boyd broke that string with a three, only to see Green Bay score 10 straight, half coming from Kayla Tetschlag, to go up 31-12 with 6:42 remaining.

The Phoenix hit 19 of 35 shots in the opening 20 minutes for 54 percent while WSU shot 33 percent.

Green Bay extended the margin to 60-31 before Wright State outscored the Phoenix 26-15 over the final 14:28.

The Raiders outshot Green Bay in the second half 38-36 percent, but the Phoenix still finished the game at 46 percent overall compared to 35 percent for WSU. Both teams struggled from three-point range as the Raiders were four of 17 while Green Bay was four of 18.

LaShawna Thomas led the way for Wright State with 20 points, 16 coming in the second half, while Ta-myra Davis nine off the bench.

Julie Woyta paced Green Bay (13-1, 2-0 Horizon) with a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds while Tetschlag also had a double-double of 15 points and 10 boards. Sarah Eichler chipped in 11 points.

After playing 10 of its first 13 games on the road, Wright State (8-5, 1-1 Horizon) begins a three-game homestand with a pair of contests next week, facing Butler on Thursday, January 6, at 7:00, followed by Valparaiso on Saturday, January 8, at 2:00.
