Box Score Wright State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, only to see Ole Miss answer with seven in its half of the inning and add five more in the fourth en route to a 15-6 decision over the Raiders in the baseball season opener for both teams Friday afternoon in Oxford, Mississippi.
WSU took advantage of a pair of Rebel errors in scoring three in the first. Sam Picchiotti started the game with a double down the left field line and Dan Marsh reached on a fielder's choice on a bunt attempt to put runners at first and third. Kyle Mossbarger later doubled to left to drive Tristan Moore with the third run.
Ole Miss, however, used six hits, two hit by pitches and a walk in scoring seven in the bottom of the first.
Wright State cut the deficit to 7-5 with two in the fourth on doubles by Moore and Justin Kopale and a RBI singles from Kody Krizman, but the Rebels tallied five in the bottom of the frame and tacked on single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to break the game open.
WSU's final run came in the seventh as Ryan Ashe doubled to left and Kopale drove him in with a hit to left.
Every player in the Raider starting lineup collected a hit, with Marsh, Ashe, Kopale and Krizman having two each.
The two teams resume the three-game series with a single game Saturday starting at 2:30 Dayton time.
