Women Drop 77-60 Decision at UIC

Box Score

The Saturday winning streak for the Wright State women's basketball team ended at seven as UIC pulled away in the second half for a 77-60 Horizon League decision at the UIC Pavilion.

A LaShawna Thomas jumper tied the game at 14 with 13:30 remaining in the first half until the Flames outscored the Raiders 22-10 over the next nine minutes to go up 36-22 at the 4:26 mark.

WSU, though, scored the final nine points of the period to only trail 36-33 at the break. UIC shot 38 percent from the field compared to 30 percent for the Raiders, but Wright State made 10 of 12 foul shots while the Flames were four of five.

The margin was just 39-37 before Taylor Foulks exploded for 11 points in a two-minute span, including three three-pointers, to extend the UIC lead to 50-38 with 15:28 to play. The Raiders would get no closer the rest of the way.

The Flames shot 42 percent for the contest while WSU was at 33 percent, including three of 16 from behind the arc. The three three-pointers for the Raiders is their lowest of the season, with the prevous low being four against Central Florida on December 22 and at Green Bay on January 2.

It was also just the second Saturday loss of the season for Wright State in 11 such games and their first since dropping a 74-70 decision at Longwood on December 11.

Thomas paced WSU with 23 points while Ta-myra Davis had 10 points and eight rebounds and Shaunda Sandifer nine points and 13 boards. The Raiders were without the services of Molly Fox, who sprained her right ankle in practice on Friday.

Foulks led all scorers with 25 for UIC (14-13, 9-7 Horizon), 15 in the second half, while Briana Hinkle had 12 and Shameia Green 11.

Wright State (17-10, 10-6 Horizon) wraps up the regular season with a pair of home games next week, starting with a matchup against nationally-ranked Green Bay on Thursday, March 3, at 7:00.
