Wright State shot just 34 percent for the game, 21 percent from three-point range, as the Raiders dropped a 73-64 decision to Valparaiso in Horizon League women's basketball action at the Athletics-Recreation Center Thursday night.

WSU went up 4-3 on a Molly Fox layup at the 16:41 mark of the first half, but that turned out to be the only lead of the night for the Raiders as the Crusaders used an 8-0 run, a run that featured two Betsy Adams threes, to go up 24-12 with 2:36 remaining in the period.

Wright State scored the final six points of the half to only trail 24-18 at the break, but Valpo hit two three-pointers to start the second half and the Crusaders maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the way until LaShawna Thomas hit a three in the final seconds to round out the scoring.

Valparaiso shot slightly better than the Raiders for the game (.349-.338), but the Crusaders made nine of 26 three-pointers compared to six of 28 for WSU. Valpo held a 53-40 rebounding edge and was 20 of 24 at the foul line, all in the second half, while Wright State was 10 of 15.

Thomas tied a career high with 27 points to lead all scorers, 20 coming in the second half. The senior guard also scored 27 in a win against UCF on December 22. Fox nearly posted a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Adams paced Valparaiso (5-17, 2-8 Horizon) with 19 points while Gina Lange had a near double-double of 11 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Tabitha Gerardot added eight points and 13 rebounds.

Wright State (13-8, 6-4 Horizon) heads to Hinkle Fieldhouse to take on the Butler Bulldogs on Saturday, February 5, at 2:00.
