Women Roll to 86-69 Win Over Milwaukee in Regular-Season Finale

Box Score

Down three midway through the first half, Wright State closed the period with a 31-5 run and maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the way as the Raiders defeated Milwaukee 86-69 in the women's basketball regular-season finale for both teams Saturday afternoon at Wright State's Nutter Center.

The Panthers jumped out to an early 9-2 lead on two three-pointers by Anne Breland and one from Sami Tucker, only to see WSU answer with eight straight, the final six on a pair of Maria Bennetts threes, to take the lead for the first time.

Milwaukee, though, regained the lead on an Angela Rodriguez three and went up 19-16 on a Jenilee Klomstad layup with 10:23 remaining in the first half.

From there, however, it would be all Wright State as the Raiders tallied the next 16 points over a six-minute span, a run that saw five different WSU players score.

Another Tucker three snapped the string at the 4:29 mark before the Raiders added eight more in a row, including threes from Kayla Lamotte and Courtney Boyd, and Wright State led 47-24 at the break after scoring the final five points on a KC Elkins three and a Bennett jumper.

Wright State shot an impressive 59 percent in the opening 20 minutes, including seven of 11 from behind the arc, while Milwaukee was at 27 percent overall and six of 20 from three.

The Panthers would cut the deficit to 14 twice in the second half, the second being 63-49 on a Lindsay Laur jumper with 10:52 to play, but would get no closer as a 10-2 run extended the Raider lead to 81-58 with 3:33 left.

WSU shot 50 percent overall for the game and was nine of 21 from three while Milwaukee hit for 33 percent and was 11 of 34 from behind the arc. The Raiders led 19-10 in points off of turnovers as they forced 14 miscues while committing only eight.

Four Wright State players scored in double figures, led by LaShawna Thomas, who nearly posted a double-double with 19 points and nine assists. Bennett had 16 while Ta-myra Davis and Molly Fox each had 14.

Rodriguez paced Milwaukee (12-17, 9-9 Horizon) with 19 while Tucker posted a double-double of 13 points and 10 boards.

The two teams will meet again on Wednesday in the Horizon League quarterfinals as #4 seed Wright State (18-11, 11-7 Horizon) hosts the #5 seed Panthers at 7:00 at Wright State's Nutter Center.
