Box Score The Wright State women's basketball team could not overcome Cleveland State hitting 16 three-pointers as the Vikings went on to a 100-93 Horizon League decision Saturday afternoon at the Wolstein Center.
CSU scored the first eight points of the game and still led 38-27 with 4:18 to go in the first half before the Raiders stormed to within two with a 12-3 run, four each coming from Tay'ler Mingo and Ivory James. The margin stayed at two until the Vikings scored the final three points to go up 48-43 at the half.
Cleveland State shot 55 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, including seven of 14 from behind the arc, while Wright State shot 45 percent, but was just two of nine from three-point range. The Raiders, though, were 15 of 22 at the foul line while the Vikings were five of eight.
A three from the left corner by Kim Demmings gave WSU a 62-60 edge with 13:29 to play and the Raiders upped the lead to three on three different occasions, but could not pull away as Cleveland State hung close until regaining the lead at 87-85 on a Kiersten Green triple at the 3:09 mark.
A three by Adesuwa Aideyman with 1:31 left pushed the deficit to 94-88 and the Vikings hit six foul shots down the stretch to seal the victory.
CSU connected on nine of 19 threes in the second half to go 16 of 33 for the contest in shooting 49 percent overall. WSU, meanwhile, shot 47 percent for the game but was just three of 15 on threes.
James led the Raiders with a double-double of 32 points and 11 rebounds while Tayler Stanton also posted a double-double as she had 15 points and 10 boards. Demmings added 18 points and eight rebounds while Mingo had 17 points.
Aideyman paced Cleveland State (11-11, 6-3 Horizon) with 23 points while Cori Coleman had 22, Imani Gordon 20 and Green 13.
Wright State (17-7, 6-3 Horizon) hosts UIC Saturday at 2:00.
