Women's Basketball Heads to Northeast Ohio

WSU plays at Cleveland State and at Youngstown State






The Wright State women's basketball team will look to bounce back after falling to IUPUI at home with road games Thursday at Cleveland State and Saturday at Youngstown State.  Game times are 7 pm and 1 pm.

The Raiders have won six of the last seven games with six of the final 10 games on the road.  WSU defeated Youngstown State at home on January 15 by a score of 73-50.   Cleveland State comes to the Nutter Center on February 16.

Senior Chelsea Welch continues to lead the Raiders with a scoring average of 21.5, adding 4.8 assists per game.  She has had 12 games of 20+ points, scoring in double figures each game.  Emily Vogelpohl averages 10.7 points and 7.2 rebounds while Mackenzie Taylor sits at 10.5 points.

CLEVELAND STATE
  • The Vikings are 12-7 and 4-4 after dropping four of the last six games, including the most recent to Youngstown State at home 66-52. 
  • Ashanti Abshaw averages 19.5 points with two others in double-figure scoring for the Vikes.
  • CSU Is 7-4 at home.
  • Cleveland State was picked to finish sixth in the preseason poll with Abshaw named to the first team and Khalya Livingston was named to the second team.
  • Livingston is averaging 14.9 points.
  • Abshaw is second in the league scoring race behind WSU's Welch.
YOUNGSTOWN STATE
  • The Penguins are 7-12 and 3-5 after breaking a four-game losing streak with a 66-52 win at Cleveland State last Saturday.  YSU is 5-4 at home and will host Northern Kentucky Thursday.
  • Sarah Cash leads YSU with a 12.2 points per game average.
  • Chelsea Olson scored the most points by a Youngstown State freshman in 23 years, and the Penguins used a big second half to beat Cleveland State.
  • The Penguins were picked to finish eighth in the preseason poll.
  • Welch had 23 points in the WSU win over YSU as Lexi Smith and Vogelpohl each had double-doubles.
NEXT UP
  • The Raiders continue on the road with games at Milwaukee and nationally-ranked Green Bay next Thursday and Saturday.
