INDIANAPOLIS/DAYTON — Wright State senior
Jenna Story has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week, the League office announced on Wednesday.
Story led Wright State to a 3-0 weekend as hosts of the Tru by Hilton Dayton Beavercreek Invitational, as the Raiders collected a pair of wins over crosstown foe Dayton and a win over Wichita State as Story was named tournament MVP. In 14 sets, Story paced the Raider backline, finishing with 71 total digs for a 5.07 digs per set average, and have a .974 overall receive percentage for the weekend. She collected 30 digs in the five-set victory over Wichita State, just three off her season-best and nine shy of her career-high, while being one of four Raiders with double-digit digs as Wichita State tried to work its offense away from her. Story also added 12 assists and five service aces over the three wins.
The Horizon League leader in total digs (255) and digs per set average (5.43), Story enters Horizon League play sixth nationally in total digs and eighth nationally in digs per set average, while her 18 service aces and 0.38 service aces per set average to date are both second-best in the Horizon. Wright State's all-time leader in digs by nearly 1,000 digs, Story has added 54 assists so far this season as part of the offensive attack.
Story becomes the third Wright State player to earn Horizon League weekly honors, joining
Callie Martin (Aug. 31) and
Sam Ott (Sept. 7) as the Raiders have now been recognized in three of the four award weeks.
The Raiders hit the road to open Horizon League play this weekend, beginning with a Friday night matchup at Cleveland State before a Saturday meeting at Oakland. Both contests are expected to be streamed on ESPN+.
