DAYTON – Wright State baseball closes its regular season with a three-game series at Purdue Fort Wayne, beginning Thursday, May 15. Live stats will be available for all three games.

Wright State is coming off a midweek loss at Kent State, falling 9-8 in the bottom of the ninth.

WSU held a 5-2 lead in the fourth, initially gaining the advantage on a solo homer by Boston Smith before JP Peltier doubled to drive in two runs. Cam Gilkerson extended the lead to 8-4 with a three-run homer in the eighth, but the Raiders fell short as KSU walked it off with a two-run double in the final inning.

SMITH'S SECOND HL WEEKLY HONOR
Wright State senior catcher Boston Smith was named Horizon League Batter of the Week (May 13) for the second time this season after leading the Raiders to a series win over Northern Kentucky. Smith hit .500 across the three-game set with a 2.083 OPS, recording a 1.500 slugging percentage and a .583 on-base percentage. He totaled six RBI on five hits—four of them for extra bases—including three home runs. Smith blasted two of those homers in the series opener, both two-run shots.

PELTIER AND SMITH ARE GOING YARD
Sophomore outfielder JP Peltier and senior catcher Boston Smith continue to be among the top power hitters in the league. Smith currently leads the league and is No. 26 nationally with 17 home runs, closely trailed by Peltier's 16.

Smith is currently second in program history with 43 career home runs—just two shy of setting a new record as Gabe Snyder leads with an all-time record of 44 (2015–18).

Wright State is second in the Horizon League and ranks No. 33 nationally with 278 walks this season, highlighting the Raiders' patient approach at the plate. Boston Smith leads the league and ranks No. 26 nationally with 46 walks, while Patrick Fultz is close behind with 43, ranking second in the HL. Smith also ranks No. 21 nationally in walks per game (0.98), followed by Fultz at 0.91.

HEAD COACH – ALEX SOGARD
Leading the charge for Wright State is head coach Alex Sogard, who has built a powerhouse program during his tenure. After leading the Raiders to a 32-24 overall record, earning their sixth HL Regular Season title, Sogard earned his fourth Horizon League Coach of the Year honor in 2024, becoming the first to do so in program history. His Coach of the Year awards are not the only accomplishment Sogard achieved at WSU. In 2019, Sogard took the Raiders to a 42-17 record, tallying the most wins by a first-year head coach in program history. Sogard led the Raiders to three consecutive NCAA Regional appearances, 2021-2023, being named the 2021 ABCA/ATEC East Coach of the Year. In June 2021, Sogard was named to the 2021 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team coaching staff.
