DAYTON, OH- The Wright State baseball team dropped both ends of the Saturday twin bill against Southeastern Missouri State (SEMO). Dropping the first game by a score of 4-2 and the second game by a score of 6-0.
Â
Wright State (5-11) will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for the series finale against the Redhawks. First pitch at Nischwitz Stadium is currently slated for 12 p.m.
Â
SEMO got on the board first in game one, scratching three runs across the plate. Ryan Lopetegui got the Redhawks on the board with an RBI single. SEMO would bring across two more runs on back-to-back RBI groundouts by Dakota Joggerst and Tank Sims.
Â
The Raiders would get on the board in the bottom of the third thanks to a pair of doubles off the bats of Zac Butler and Andrew Dundan. Butler opened the inning with a double into the right-centerfield gap. He would come in to score a few pitches later when Duncan roped a double up the line in right.
Â
After allowing three runs in the top of the first, Wright State Cam Allen settled in and delivered his longest outing of the season, pitching six innings. After allowing a leadoff walk in the top of the second, Allen would go on to sit down the last 15 SEMO batters he faced. The junior's final line was six innings pitched, allowing just three runs on three hits while striking out three Redhawks.
Â
SEMO would bring across a run of insurance in the top of the eighth on an RBI fielder's choice from Joe Hall. A trio of Raiders appeared out of the Wright State bullpen with Michael Zielinski, Cooper Ashby, and Evan Boeckman combining to pitch the final three innings.
Â
Hunter Warren would launch his fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the ninth, parking the first pitch of the inning over the wall in left field. But it would be too late to embark a comeback
After a 30-minute break, game two would start very similar to its predecessor, with SEMO striking for three runs in the top of the first. After a pair of free passes, Hall would launch a homer over the wall in left to start the game on the right foot for the Redhawks.
Â
SEMO would add three more runs of insurance, scoring one run in the fourth and two more in the sixth. Meanwhile, its pitching staff pitched its first shutout of the season, limiting the Raiders to just three hits and striking out seven.
