Box Score The Wright State baseball team collected a season-high 22 hits as the Raiders rolled to a 13-1 win over Youngstown State in the Horizon League opener for both teams Friday night at Nischwitz Stadium.
The offense was in gear early as Wright State scored three in the bottom of the first. With two out and no one on base, Jake Hibberd started the rally with hit through the left side and after Corey Davis doubled to center, Zach Tanner had a double of his own to drive in Hibberd and Davis. Ryan Ashe then made it three straight doubles to plate Tanner with the third run.
A Sam Picchiotti RBI single made it 4-0 in the second and the Raiders broke the game open with seven in the fourth. including a two-run double off the bat of Dan Marsh. A bases-loaded walk to Justin Kopale resulted in another run in the fifth and WSU rounded out its scoring with a run in the seventh as Ashe, who tripled, scored on a wild pitch.
Davis paced the WSU offense with four hits while Hibberd, Tanner, Marsh and Kyle Mossbarger each had three.
On the mound, Casey Henn (2-2) pitched seven shutout innings, giving up just five hits and no walks while striking out seven.
Wright State (11-8, 1-0 Horizon) wraps up the three-game series with the Penguins Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1:00.
