Box Score Down 4-0 after two innings, the Wright State baseball team rallied back to take the lead in the eighth and score the game-winner in the ninth for a 6-5 decision over Cincinnati Wednesday night at Marge Schott Stadium.
The Bearcats scored three times in the first, the big blow being a two-run home run by Justin Riddell, and extended the lead to 4-0 with an unearned run in the second.
The Raiders started on their comeback with two in the fourth. Hits by Ryan Ashe and Kody Krizman along with an Andrew Elliott walk loaded the bases for Dan Marsh, who drove in Elliott and Ashe with a single to left.
WSU cut the deficit to 4-3 in the fifth as Tristan Moore tripled and scored as Zach Tanner reached on an error. Wright State then tied an inning later as Jake Hibberd's hit through the left side knocked in Marsh, who reached on an error and went to second on a Corey Davis walk.
Hibberd put the Raiders in front for the first time in the eighth with a solo home run to left, his seventh of the season and third in the last four games.
Cincinnati posed a major threat in its half of the eighth by loading the bases with one out, but WSU reliever Michael Schum pitched out of the jam with a fielder's choice that tied the game at 5-5 and a strikeout.
The Raiders pushed across the winning run in the ninth as Tanner led off with a hit to left and, after moving up to second on an Ashe bunt, scored as Kyle Mossbarger tripled to right center.
It was then left to Schum from there as the junior retired the Bearcats in order in the bottom of the ninth, including a strikeout, to improve to 7-2 on the year.
Hibberd and Mossbarger each finished with three hits to pace the Raider offense while Marsh had two.
Wright State (28-13) hosts Valparaiso in a key Horizon League series this weekend, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:00. The Raiders trail the Crusaders by one-half game for the top spot in the league standings.
