Box Score The Wright State baseball team saw an 8-0 lead trimmed to two in the seventh before a three-run home run by Jack Murphy provided the final margin in an 11-6 win over Milwaukee Saturday afternoon at Nischwitz Stadium.
The Raiders scored a quick run in the first as Brad Macciocchi led off with a triple and scored on a Michael Timm sacrifice fly and then added three more in the second on a Jack Murphy RBI double, a run-scoring single by Jason DeFevers and a squeeze bunt from Jeff Limbaugh.
WSU extended the lead to 8-0 with two in the third and two more in the fourth, the two in the fourth coming on a two-run double by Andrew McCafferty.
Wright State starter Robby Sexton gave up just one hit to the Panthers over the first four innings, only to see Milwaukee take advantage of a Tyler Hermann home run and two errors to cut the deficit to 8-5. UWM then added a run on a bases-loaded walk in the seventh before Taylor Braun retired the final two batters of the inning on strikeouts.
Murphy provided the Raiders some breathing room in the seventh as after McCafferty walked and Sean Murphy reached on an infield hit, the senior third baseman connected on his first home run as a Raider, a three-run shot to left to make it 11-6.
Sexton (5-4) earned the win, striking out three in 6.1 innings of work, while Braun fanned three in 1.2 innings before Logan Blair pitched a scoreless ninth.
Offensively, Jack Murphy finished with two hits and four RBI while Sean Murphy had three hits and Macciocchi, McCafferty and DeFevers two hits each.
Wright State (17-16, 11-2 Horizon) goes for the series sweep with the finale Sunday at 1:00.
