Box Score The Wright State baseball team saw a 7-3 lead slip away, only to score two unearned runs in the eighth and made them hold up for a 9-7 decision at UIC Saturday, completing the series sweep over the Flames.
UIC scored two runs in the first, only to see WSU tie it with a pair in the second. With one out, Jason DeFevers singled up the middle and Jack Murphy walked. One out later, Jeff Limbaugh drove in both runners with a double to left center.
The Flames regained the lead with a run in the third before the Raiders exploded for five runs in the fifth, a rally that started after the first two batters were retired. Brad Macciocchi had a bunt single, advanced on an error and scored on a Kieston Greene hit for the first run and Sean Murphy had a hit through the left side to drive Greene and make it 4-3. DeFevers later had a two-run double and Jack Murphy knocked in the final run with a hit.
UIC tied the game with three in the sixth and one more in the seventh until Wright State went in front to stay with two unearned runs in the eighth as Limbaugh scored on a passed ball and Michael Timm on a Macciocchi sacrifice fly.
Andrew Elliott pitched the final two innings for the Raiders and earned his eighth save of the year by pitching around a hit in the eighth and two more in the ninth, striking out three in the process. Taylor Braun (5-1) picked up the win in relief.
DeFevers paced the Raider offense with three hits, two runs scored and two RBI while Macciocchi and Greene had two hits each and Limbaugh two RBI.
Wright State (21-16, 15-2 Horizon) visits Akron on Wednesday at 6:00 before hitting the road again next weekend for a three-game set at Oakland.
