Bellomy throws no-hit ball for 5.2 innings
The Wright State baseball team notched their eighth straight win as they opened the 2019 Horizon League Tournament with a 15-3 win over Northern Kentucky Thursday afternoon at WSU's Nischwitz Stadium. WSU is now 42-15 and will host UIC Friday at Noon.
Starting Raider pitcher Bear Bellomy paced the Raiders with 5.2 innings of no-hit ball, coming out after six after allowing two runs on three hits. The senior also struck out seven Norse with just one walk on 92 pitches. It was his seventh straight decision as he ran his overall record to 9-3. Riley Perlich came on to pick up his first save, throwing three innings with just one earned run.
Zane Harris had four RBI, including three off a double in the fourth inning. Horizon League Player of the Year Peyton Burdick hit his 14th homerun to finish with two hits and three RBI. Junior Seth Gray ended with a double, two hits, two RBI and three runs scored while catcher Brandon Giltrow collected his fourth homer of the season. Leadoff hitter JD Orr had three walks, two steals and three runs scored. He now has a nation-best 59 stolen bases. As a team, the Raiders were walked 14 times, two short of their season high.
"We got excellent pitching from Bear to start and Riley to end," WSU head coach Alex Sogard said. "It seemed like all the hitters were up to the task today. It's nice to get the first win of the tournament."
